As per reports on Friday (07 February), Hungary is intensifying a crackdown on non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and media outlets operating in the country that receive funding from the United States and other international sources.
• Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, an ally of former U.S. President Donald Trump, stated that his government is reviewing organizations that have received financial assistance from the U.S.
• PM Orban’s administration has implemented measures over the years that critics claim are intended to stigmatize and hinder groups that support women, minorities, legal and human rights assistance, and efforts to uncover corruption.
• By reviewing and limiting their operations, the government aims to reduce outside influence and maintain tighter control over the country’s internal affairs.
