As per reports, the National Weather Service has extended a high surf warning for most Hawaiian islands until 1800 hours local time on Thursday (09 January). Dangerously large surf is expected along north- and west-facing shores, with waves predicted to exceed warning levels.
The warning initially issued for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and the west shores of Hawaii Island remains in effect. A large west-northwest swell is building and will overlap with an extra-large northwest swell by early Wednesday (08 January), leading to surf heights significantly above warning levels.
