As of Sunday (29 June), all services of the Municipality of Athens have been placed on heightened alert due to the very high risk of wildfire, driven by strong winds expected to prevail across the region.

• In line with emergency measures outlined under Attica’s Civil Protection protocols, access to Lycabettus Hill has been prohibited as a preventive measure, effective from 0000 hours (local time) on Saturday (28 June), and will remain closed to all activities until further notice.
• In accordance with the municipality’s Civil Protection Plan, dedicated alert teams from the Cleaning and Greening Services have been deployed to conduct 24-hour patrols to ensure early detection and rapid containment of any potential fire incidents.
• Simultaneously, the Municipal Police Directorate has activated both ground patrol units and aerial drone surveillance to monitor hill areas and other fire-prone zones within the urban fabric.
• A thermal imaging system is currently operating to scan large green spaces in central Athens, identifying possible temperature anomalies indicative of fire hazards. Additionally, municipal water tanker services have been placed on high readiness to support immediate suppression operations where required.
• The Municipal Police Operations Center is functioning on a continuous 24-hour basis, coordinating directly with the Fire Department, other relevant municipal bodies, and neighboring municipalities to facilitate a timely and unified emergency response.
