According to reports, security forces in Pakistan are on high alert following an intelligence warning of a potential abduction plot targeting foreign guests at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The details are as follows:
• The Pakistan Intelligence Bureau has issued a high alert regarding potential abduction plots targeting foreign guests at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, warning Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ISIS, and Balochistan-based groups as potential threats on Monday (24 February).
• According to the warning, the Islamic State’s Khorasan Province (ISKP) is reportedly planning to kidnap Chinese and Arab nationals attending the event and demand ransom. ISKP operatives are allegedly renting houses on the outskirts of cities as safe havens, selecting areas without CCTV surveillance and accessible only by rickshaw or motorcycle. The abductees are intended to be moved between safe locations under the cover of night, as per the intelligence warning.
• As a result, surveillance has been increased at ports, airports, offices, and residences frequented by these visitors in Islamabad and Rawalpindi as of Monday (24 February).
• Additionally, Afghanistan’s intelligence agency has also warned Pakistani authorities about possible attacks by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) at key locations within Pakistan on Monday (24 February).
