According to reports, heightened security deployment and movement restrictions are ongoing around Marina Beach in Chennai on Thursday (07 May) amid concerns that supporters of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam may gather in the area to stage protests regarding the government formation issue in the state.

The details are as follows:

• Police have reportedly tightened security around the Marina Beach stretch and blocked several key entry and exit points leading to the promenade area. Vehicle checks are being conducted on all vehicles entering the Marina Service Road. Patrols have also been increased along the stretch from the Statue of Labor to the Lighthouse area.
• Police personnel and patrol vehicles have been deployed along the Marina Promenade. Barricades have also been placed on roads approaching the beach area. Officers have reportedly dispersed small groups gathering near the promenade and advised members of the public to vacate the location.
• Around 400 police personnel, including eight police inspectors under the supervision of two Assistant Commissioners of Police, have been deployed on a rotational basis across Marina Beach and adjoining areas.
• Additional police deployment and surveillance measures are ongoing at several locations, including the Kannagi Statue bus stand, the service road behind the Kannagi Statue, the area opposite Vivekananda House, the Dr Besant Road junction, the Blue Black Beach entrance service road, the service road behind the Aavaiyar Statue, the VP Raman Road junction, the service road behind the Gandhi Statue, the lighthouse entrance gate, and Loop Road.
• As a precautionary measure, additional security deployment has also been reported near the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) headquarters in Royapettah, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) headquarters at Anna Arivalayam, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters at Kamalalayam in Chennai.
