According to reports, all sluice gates of the Parakrama Samudra were opened by two feet each since Friday (29 December) due to incessant rainfall in the Pollonnaruwa district.

Traffic between Gallella and Manampitiya on the Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa road was hampered due to inclement weather in the area

• The Sri Lanka Department of Meteorology has predicted showers or thundershowers in Eastern and Uva provinces and in Polonnaruwa, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya and Hambantota districts. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places.
• Several spells of showers is likely to occur in Northern province and in Anuradhapura and Kandy districts.
• Fairly strong winds about (30-40) kmph can be expected at times in Eastern slopes of the Central hills and in Northern, North-Central, North-western, Eastern,Uva and Southern provinces.
• Additionally, misty conditions can be expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces during the morning.
