As per reports, heavy rainfall impacted the state of Mato Grosso, prompting the government to establish a situation room to monitor and assist affected municipalities on Saturday (18 January). Sixteen cities, including Paranatinga and Confresa, are under alert, with both cities declaring a state of emergency due to severe flooding.
• The cities under alert are Paranatinga, Confresa, Rio Branco, Salto do Céu, Alto Paraguai, Cuiabá, Nobres, Arenápolis, Barra do Bugres, Campo Novo do Parecis, Denise, Nova Marilândia, Nova Olímpia, São José do Rio Claro, Lucas do Rio Verde and Chapada dos Guimarães.
• In the first half of January, the state of Mato Grosso recorded an average rainfall of 171.4 millimeters, which accounts for 80 percent of the typical monthly average rainfall of 215 millimeters.
• Among the affected municipalities, Paranatinga experienced 74 millimeters of rainfall, while Confresa recorded 135 millimeters between 16-17 January. These significant rainfall levels have contributed to widespread flooding and prompted emergency measures in the region.
