As per reports, continuing heavy rainfall between Saturday-Sunday (13-14 September) has caused flash floods and landslides across several districts of Manipur, inundating residential areas and causing rainfall-related disruptions.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts for heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and squall in parts of Manipur on Sunday (14 September). The details are as follows:
• Flooding was reported in Imphal East, including Yaingangpokpi, Santikhongbal, and Sabungkhok Khunou, where several houses and residential compounds were submerged.
• In Imphal West, areas such as Kakwa and Sagolband were also affected by waterlogging and flooding, leaving residents stranded in low-lying neighborhoods.
• Landslides occurred in Awangkhul (Noney district), and in the hill districts of Senapati and Kamjong, where slopes have destabilised due to continuous rainfall.
• The Imphal, Nambul, and Iril rivers have risen significantly; however, authorities confirmed that levels have not yet reached danger marks. The state Water Resources Department is monitoring river conditions closely.
• The Indian Army launched ‘Operation Jal Rahat 2’ (Operation Water Relief 2) to provide relief and rescue support in flood-affected areas.
• State authorities have placed emergency response teams on standby to assist affected populations and mitigate further damage.
• Meanwhile, on Sunday (14 September), IMD issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall for the districts of Senapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, Jiribam, Pherzawl, Chandel, Tengnoupal, Thoubal, Kamjong, and Kakching in Manipur. All remaining districts were placed under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls.
• However, according to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) nowcast issued at 1430 hours and valid until 1730 hours on Sunday (14 September), a yellow alert for heavy rainfall was maintained across all districts of Manipur.
• On Monday (15 September), a yellow alert for heavy rainfall was maintained in Ukhrul and Chandel districts, while all other districts were placed under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls.
• On Tuesday (16 September), a yellow alert for heavy rainfall was maintained in Ukhrul district. A yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls was issued in Senapati, Kangpokpi, Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Chandel, Churachandpur, Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, and Imphal East districts.
