As per reports, heavy rainfall is forecast for South China as well as parts of Southwest China and regions south of the Yangtze River from Friday (17 May) till Monday (20 May). Rainstorms are forecast for Guangxi, Guangdong, Hunan and Jiangxi. Rainfall is expected to cause the water levels to rise in several rivers including the Xijiang, Beijiang, Hanjiang, Wujiang, Xiangjiang and Ganjiang Rivers.
Therefore, China’s Ministry of Water Resources has stated that multiple rivers flowing through the Pearl River and Yangtze River basins are expected to witness floods over warning level due to heavy rainfall. Relevant water conservancy departments will strengthen monitoring, timely issue of early warning systems, and closely monitor the safety of reservoir and the prevention of floods and mountain torrents disasters.
