As per reports, Spain is forecast to experience its first heatwave, with temperatures forecast to intensify through the week and peak on Saturday (20 June) and Sunday (21 June).
• Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius in many inland areas of the Iberian Peninsula, while numerous locations across the country are already recording temperatures above seasonal averages.
• On Thursday (18 June), temperatures are forecast to exceed 30 degrees Celsius in 43 provincial capitals, with some areas including Zaragoza, Badajoz, and Seville reaching approximately 38 degrees Celsius. Heat warnings remain in effect across much of the country, including the Ebro Valley, La Rioja, Navarre, Catalonia, Madrid, Andalusia, and Extremadura.
• In addition to the heat, thunderstorms are forecast across parts of northern Spain, including Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, and Castile and León. Galicia could receive up to 30 millimetre of rainfall within one hour, increasing the risk of localized flooding and travel disruptions. Forecasts indicate the heatwave may persist into early next week.
