As per reports, Heathrow Airport has announced that it is open and fully operational on Saturday (22 March) following a fire at an off-site electrical substation that caused a significant power outage, leading to a temporary shutdown of airport operations.
• To mitigate the effects of the closure, additional flights were scheduled on Saturday (22 March) to accommodate around 10,000 passengers impacted by the disruption. The airport has also deployed additional staff to assist travelers and manage airport operations effectively.
• The National Grid has confirmed the full restoration of power to all customers connected to the North Hyde substation, including Heathrow. As a key power source for airport infrastructure, the substation’s functionality is essential for maintaining smooth airport operations.
• British Airways has stated that it expects to run a near-full schedule on Sunday (23 March), advising passengers to proceed to Heathrow as usual unless informed otherwise. The airline managed to operate approximately 90 percent of its scheduled flights on Saturday (22 March).
