As per reports, on Wednesday (24 July), the German government announced that it plans to hold the next general elections for its lower house of parliament on 28 September 2025, in line with the nation’s constitutional four-year interval.

The decision was confirmed following a cabinet agreement, with plans to recommend the date to President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for final approval.

• Reports indicate that, Chancellor Olaf Scholz, from the Social Democratic Party (SPD), has declared his intention to seek reelection despite facing significant challenges.
