Gas leak prompts evacuations in Georgetown, Texas, on Wednesday (29 January)

As per reports, emergency responders are addressing a four-inch gas leak at the intersection of Main Street and University Avenue in Georgetown on Wednesday (29 January).

• Georgetown Police reported that the gas leak has led to a road closure between Austin Avenue and Church Street, while the Georgetown Fire Department has extended the closure to the entire intersection and further down to Forest Street.
• As of 1135 hours (local time), the fire department confirmed that evacuations are underway from 11th to 15th Streets and between Scenic Drive and Church Street.
• Police stated that the road closures are expected to remain in place for at least eight hours. The fire department further noted that Atmos Energy indicated the repair work would take several hours to complete.
