As per reports, heavy rainfall combined with high tides on Wednesday (08 October) led to widespread flooding across low‑lying roads, riverside zones, and canal areas in Ho Chi Minh City. Slow-moving traffic was reported during rush hour in Ho Chi Minh City.
• Floodwaters overflowed onto Tran Xuan Soan Street under the Tan Thuan bridge, submerging roads and making it difficult to distinguish between streets and canal water.
• Some stretches of Tran Xuan Soan, along the Te Canal, have been submerged for nearly two kilometers.
• The combination of rain and tidal surge led to severe inundation in multiple wards and disrupted traffic across the city.
• The Southern Hydrometeorological Station reports rainfall of 10-40 millimeters (mm), with some locations exceeding 50 mm, and forecasts suggest continued thunderstorms and lightning over several wards including An Khanh, Long Truong, Long Phuoc, Dong Hung Thuan, An Nhon, Binh Hoa, and Phu An. Peak tide levels at Phu An and Nha Be stations may rise to 1.60-1.65 meters (m), approaching or exceeding alert level 03.
• According to the National Center for Hydro‑Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), Ho Chi Minh City is expected to experience thunderstorms, rainfall, and lightning throughout the day and night hours of Wednesday (08 October). The rainfall, alongside persistent thunderstorms is forecast to continue on Thursday (09 October).
