As per reports, heavy rainfall across parts of Indonesia led to flooding on Thursday (04 January), with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicting persistence of inclement weather conditions in Lampung over the next three days. The following are the latest updates:
• The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) stated that as of 2100 hours of Thursday (04 January), inundation of 24 neighbourhoods and eight roads had occurred across parts of Jakarta. The highest flooding occurred in Kuningan Barat sub-district of South Jakarta with floodwater reaching heights of upto 1.2 meters; 20 neighbourhoods of South Jakarta witnessed flooding, while three neighbourhoods in West Jakarta witnessed flooding.
• Upto 352 houses, inhabited by around 1,000 people were inundated in Karangligar Village, Karawang Regency, West Java, due to overflowing of the Cibeeet and Citarum Rivers. As of Thursday (04 January) afternoon, the water level had reached 0.5-01 meters in houses as well as shops, religious institutions and schools.
• The BMKG further issued an early weather warning of possible moderate to heavy rainfall with lightning and strong winds in most areas of the Lampung region between Friday to Sunday (05-07 January). The warnings remain in issue across the West Coast, Mesuji, West Tulangbawang, Tulangbawang, Central Lampung, East Lampung, South Lampung, Bandar Lampung, Way Kanan, and North Lampung.
