As per reports, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has issued a flood warning for the Sault Sainte Marie/Blind River District, effective until Tuesday (29 April).
• Residents, particularly those in the Goulais River watershed, are advised to monitor local water conditions closely and avoid fast-moving rivers and streams.
• The warning follows a shift from sunny weather to rainfall late on Sunday (20 April), with rainfall continuing into Monday (21 April).
• Daytime temperatures are expected to reach 10 degrees Celsius and above, with positive overnight temperatures contributing to accelerated snowmelt and runoff.
• Water levels and stream flows in the region are currently elevated due to spring snowmelt and recent rainfall.
• Snowpack in areas north of Goulais River and Searchmont remains substantial, with depths averaging 66 centimetres and water equivalents exceeding 200 millimetres, well above seasonal norms.
• While water levels in the Goulais River remain below flood thresholds, continued rainfall may lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.
• The MNR is actively monitoring watershed conditions and will issue updates as needed.
