As per reports, close to 3,000 screening officers at Toronto Pearson Airport, represented by the Canadian Airport Workers Union (CAWU) are likely to strike on Saturday (22 June).
Previously, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA), the union representing WestJet Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and other technical operation employees issued a 72-hour strike notice, indicating intent for a work stoppage from Thursday (20 June) at 1900 hours local time.
• WestJet has preemptively cancelled 31 flights scheduled for Wednesday (19 June) and Thursday (20 June), affecting about 6,500 passengers, due to the looming strike.
• The negotiation process started on 31 May 2024 and continues up to the strike deadline. If no agreement is reached, the strike could commence at midnight on Saturday (22 June).
