Fishing restrictions and closures announced for several Montana rivers and creeks from Wednesday (29 July)

As per reports, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) has announced new daily fishing restrictions and full fishing closures across several rivers and creeks in southwest and western Montana, effective Wednesday (29 July), in response to rising water temperatures.

• Daily hoot owl restrictions, prohibiting fishing from 1400 hours local time (2000 hours UTC) to 0000 hours local time (0600 hours UTC) each day, are in effect from Wednesday (29 July) across several waterbodies in southwest and western Montana.
• On the Big Hole River, restrictions have been expanded to include the entire river downstream of Saginaw Bridge on Skinner Meadows Road.
• On the Blackfoot River, restrictions apply from Cedar Meadow Fishing Access Site to the confluence with the Clark Fork River.
• On Monture Creek, restrictions apply from the confluence with Falls Creek to the Highway 200 bridge.
• On the Clark Fork River, restrictions have been extended downstream to include the river from Flint Creek to the confluence with the Flathead River.
• On the East Fork of the Bitterroot River, restrictions apply from the Highway 93 crossing at Sula to its confluence with the West Fork of the Bitterroot; the entire mainstem of the Bitterroot River is already under restrictions.
• On Lolo Creek, restrictions apply from its headwaters to the confluence with South Fork Lolo Creek.
• On Rock Creek, restrictions apply from its headwaters at the confluence of the West and Middle Forks to the mouth of Stoney Creek.
• On Silver Bow Creek, restrictions apply in its entirety from Blacktail Creek at Montana Street in Butte to the mouth of Warm Springs Creek at the Gas City Road Bridge.
• Full fishing closures, applicable at all hours of the day, have been announced effective Wednesday (29 July) for the protection of bull trout.
• These closures apply to a 100-yard radius of the mouths of the following Clark Fork River tributaries: the mouth of Fish Creek, the mouth of Rattlesnake Creek, and the mouth of the St. Regis River.
