Fire incident reported in Manhattan on Tuesday (09 December)

As per reports, on Tuesday (09 December), a major four-alarm fire erupted at a six-story residential building at 201 West 107th Street, Upper West Side, Manhattan.

• Reportedly, the fire broke out at 0820 hours local time (1320 hours UTC) on Tuesday (09 December), on the top floor before rapidly spreading into the roof area. The New York Fire Department first reported ‘operating at a 3-alarm fire’ at 0849 hours local time (1349 hours UTC) and upgraded it to a four-alarm fire at 0912 hours local time (1412 hours UTC) on Tuesday (09 December).
• The fire caused the left side of the structure to cave in, creating a collapse zone and sending flaming debris onto the street, including a large chunk that fell beside a fire engine.
• Roughly 140 FDNY fire and EMS personnel were deployed, arriving within three minutes, per the FDNY Chief of Operations. The fire was brought under control by 1030 hours local time (1530 hours UTC) on Tuesday (09 December). Authorities reported three minor injuries, including one firefighter, while two residents were transported to local hospitals, and one individual was carried down from the roof.
• Heavy smoke spread across the Upper West Side, prompting advisories for vulnerable residents to close windows due to toxic fumes. Streets around West 107th Street were closed to traffic, and the public was instructed to avoid the area.
• As of 1230 hours local time (1730 hours UTc) on Tuesday (09 Deember), residual investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
