According to reports, a residential fire was reported in Hemei Village, Zhongpu Township, Chiayi County on Tuesday (18 February) evening. The emergency responders reached the location immediately after receiving the information. Reportedly five people were rescued during the operation out of which a five-year old boy succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. The building also serves as a private temple that usually hosts temple fair activities. It is suspected that flammable materials such as gold paper are piled up inside.

Further investigations to find the detailed cause of the fire continues.
