Farmers’ groups blockaded Haryana grain markets on Monday (07 October)

As per reports, the following are the latest updates on the farmers’ protest as of Tuesday (08 October):

• Farmers’ activists belonging to various factions of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) staged a blockade of various grain markets in Haryana on Monday (07 October) to protest delays in paddy procurement.
• Protests were staged at the main grain markets in Karnal, Indri, and Assandh, with farmers locking the markets and staging demonstrations outside their premises for several hours.
• Furthermore, the BKU and other farmers’ bodies have threatened to hold a ‘mahapanchayat’ (mega gathering) on Wednesday (09 October) at the Karnal grain market if the Haryana Government does not begin procurement of paddy crops.
