As per reports, a Red Flag Warning with a Particularly Dangerous Situation designation is scheduled across the San Luis Valley and parts of southern and central Colorado from 1000 hours local time (1600 hours UTC) on Wednesday (22 April) until 0000 hours local time on Thursday (23 April) (0600 hours UTC).
• The National Weather Service has indicated that this warning covers Fire Weather Zones 224 and 225, including Alamosa, Del Norte, Fort Garland, Saguache, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Wet Mountains and La Veta Pass, along with Zone 220 covering Leadville and Buena Vista in Lake and Chaffee counties.
• Forecast conditions indicate very low humidity levels between four percent and nine percent, combined with strong winds of 25 to 40 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 45 to 60 miles per hour, particularly during the late afternoon and evening hours on Wednesday (22 April).
• The National Weather Service has assessed that this constitutes a particularly dangerous situation, where any fire ignition is expected to spread rapidly and uncontrollably, with destructive potential.
• Winds are expected to gradually weaken around 1900 hours local time (0100 hours UTC on Thursday, 23 April), although elevated fire risk conditions may persist into Thursday (23 April) under a continued Fire Weather Watch across parts of the region.
