As per reports, extensive infrastructure works under the State Highway 2 (SH2) Melling Transport Improvements project have led to ongoing closures and traffic disruptions in Lower Hutt and surrounding areas until December.

• The SH2 Melling Transport Improvements / Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi project includes the redesign of the Melling interchange, construction of a new river bridge, relocation of Melling train station, and broader transport network upgrades.
• As part of the works, major thoroughfares, including sections of Queens Drive and High Street (near McDonald’s), are closed for construction activities that are expected to continue for approximately nine months, causing significant traffic impacts and rerouting.
