Explosion reported at firecracker facility in Virudhunagar district on Saturday (04 January); six workers dead

As per reports, an explosion incident occurred while chemicals were being mixed at a firecracker manufacturing facility in Bommaiyapuram village near Sattur in Virudhunagar district on Saturday (04 January) at around 0930 hours. The blast resulted in six workers dead, and destroying at least one room. While fire and rescue teams from Sattur and Virudhunagar stations reportedly responded promptly, however, the exact cause of the incident remains unknown.

In response, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) M.K. Stalin has announced a compensation of INR four lakh to the families of the deceased. Additionally, Vachakkarapatti police have reportedly registered a case against four individuals, including the factory owners for negligence and employing workers without proper safety measures.
