As per reports, a three-day “Chakka Jam” (transport strike) has been scheduled by major transport unions, including the All India Motor and Goods Transport Association (AIMTC), from Thursday (21 May) to Saturday (23 May).

• The protest is directed against a 50 percent hike in the Environmental Compensation Charge (ECC) and a proposed ban on BS-IV diesel commercial vehicles in Delhi effective from 31 October 2026.
• While transport unions stated that vehicles carrying essential goods such as milk, medicines, and fresh produce are exempt, the blockade at major border points like Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur is likely to cause significant indirect delays.
• Wholesale hubs, specifically Azadpur Sabzi Mandi and Ghazipur Mandi, are expected to see a sharp decline in arrivals from neighbouring states such as Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
