As per reports, public healthcare services across Kericho County, Kenya, are expected to remain disrupted following a doctors’ strike initiated by the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) after negotiations with the county government reportedly failed, as of Saturday (27 June).
• The industrial action stems from unresolved salary arrears and unfulfilled provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
• Public hospitals, including Kericho County Referral Hospital and several sub-county health facilities, are expected to operate with limited emergency services only. The union has cited KES 45 million in unpaid salary arrears, delayed promotions, non-remittance of statutory deductions, and inadequate medical supplies as key grievances.
• KMPDU has stated that doctors are expected to continue the strike until the county government signs a legally binding return-to-work agreement supported by immediate financial commitments and implementation of the outstanding CBA obligations.
