As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the following alerts have been issued across the two states and the union territory (UT) of Chandigarh until Monday (01 January 2024):
• In Haryana, a red alert for fog and cold weather has been issued in the districts of Fatehabad, Hisar, Ambala, Rohtak, Panipat, Sonipat, Jind, Karnal, Kaithal, and Kurukshetra. An orange alert for fog remains issued in the districts of Mahendragarh, Rewari, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Faridabad, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, and Yamuna Nagar. A yellow alert for fog has been issued in Panchkula, Palwal and Nuh (Mewat). The same alerts are also in place for Sunday (31 December).
• In Punjab, red alerts for fog and cold weather have been issued across the districts of Tarn Taran, Karputhala, Moga, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Faridkot, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Barnala, Patiala, and Mansa. An orange alert for fog has been issued across the districts of SAS Nagar (Mohali), Rupnagar (Ropar), Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, Nawashahr, and Fatehgarh Sahib. The same alerts are also in place for Sunday (31 December).
• An orange alert for fog remains issued in Chandigarh. The same alert remains in place for Sunday (31 December).
• Dense (visibility of 51-100 meters) to very dense (visibility of 20-50 meters) fog is anticipated to remain in the states over the next three days.
• 83 trains under Ambala Division were delayed causing inconvenience to commuters on Friday (29 December). Low visibility led to the following trains running late by half an hour to over 9 hours: Vaishno Devi-New Delhi Vande Bharat, Pooja Express, Malwa Express, Golden Temple Mail, Shan-e-Punjab, Sachkhand Express, Katihar Express and others on the Delhi-Ambala route.
• On Monday (01 January 2024), orange alerts for fog and cold weather remain issued in Haryana’s districts of Ambala, Kurkshetra, Karnal, Kaithal, Rohtak, Sonipat, Panipat, and Jind, while yellow alerts for fog remain issued in all other districts of the state.
• On Monday (01 January 2024), orange alerts for fog and cold weather remain issued in Punjab’s district of Patiala, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Pathankot, Ferozepur, Nawashahr, Karputhala, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, and Fatehgarh Sahib, while yellow alerts for fog remain issued in all other districts of the state.
• A yellow alert for fog remains issued in Chandigarh on Monday (01 January 2024).
