As per reports, a demonstration took place in front of the Berlin House of Representatives on Thursday (05 December) as thousands of people protested the planned cuts to social welfare in the city’s 2025 budget.

• The protest, organized by trade unions and welfare associations, drew attention to the impact of these austerity measures on the social sector. Demonstrators, including employees from the social welfare, education, and health sectors, expressed concerns over job insecurity, reduced working hours, and the overall social hardship caused by the proposed budget cuts.
• The supplementary budget, which is set to be approved by the House of Representatives on 19 December includes savings of approximately three billion euros, impacting all Senate administrations.
• Despite some reversals, such as the restoration of 48 million euros in cuts, concerns remain regarding the potential effects on social welfare services and employment within the sector. Demonstrators emphasized the need for further action to protect welfare services and jobs.
