The China Meteorological Observatory (CMO) issued a yellow typhoon warning at 0600 hours on Tuesday (12 August) for Typhoon Yangliu, which is forecast to impact coastal South China and surrounding maritime areas. The CMO also continued a blue warning for severe convective weather affecting northern, central, and southwestern China.

The details are as follows:

• Typhoon Yangliu (Severe Tropical Storm level) was located at 0500 hours about 780 km east-southeast of Taitung City in Taiwan, with maximum sustained winds of 30 m/s (Level 11) and a central pressure of 980 hPa. The system is forecast to intensify into a Strong Typhoon (42-48 m/s, Level 14-15) before weakening and making landfall between southern Fujian and eastern Guangdong between the night hours of Wednesday (13 August) and early morning hours of Thursday (14 August) as a Strong Tropical Storm level, 25-30 m/s, Level 10-11.
• From 0800 hours on Tuesday (12 August) to 0800 hours on Wednesday (13 August), strong winds of Force 6-7, gusting to Force 9-10, will affect the Bashi Channel and coastal areas of South China. Winds near the typhoon centre will reach Force 11-14, gusting to Force 15-16.
• Heavy to torrential rainfall is forecast from Tuesday-Friday (12-15 August) across most parts of South China, western and southern Jiangnan, central and eastern Guizhou, and other areas, with localised heavy rainstorms or extremely heavy rainstorms.
• From 0800 hours on Tuesday (12 August) to 0800 hours on Wednesday (13 August), heavy to torrential rainfall is expected in parts of southern Henan, central and southwestern Hubei, western and northern Hunan, eastern and southern Guizhou, northern Yunnan, western and northeastern Hebei, western and northern Beijing, northern Tianjin, and southeastern Tibet. Localised torrential rain (100-140 mm) is expected in southern Henan, northeastern and southwestern Hubei, and northern Hunan.
• From 0800 hours on Wednesday (13 August) to 0800 hours on Thursday (14 August), heavy to torrential rain will occur in parts of eastern and southern Fujian, eastern Guangdong, southern Shandong, northern Jiangsu, northern Anhui, northeastern Hubei, central Heilongjiang, northwestern Yunnan, the southern western Sichuan Plateau, and southeastern Tibet.
• From 0800 hours on Thursday (14 August) to 0800 hours on Friday (15 August), heavy to torrential rain will affect southern Fujian, most of Guangdong, central and eastern Guangxi, southern Hunan, southern Jiangxi, western Shandong, and northern Henan, with localised torrential rain (100-230 mm) in northern Guangdong, northeastern Guangxi, southern Hunan, and southern Jiangxi.
