CMO issues typhoon blue warning for parts of China on Thursday (14 August)

The China Meteorological Observatory (CMO) issued a typhoon blue warning at 0600 hours on Thursday (14 August) for Typhoon Yangliu, and lifted the blue warning for severe convective weather for parts of China. The details are as follows:

The details are as follows:

• Typhoon Yangliu made landfall on the coast of Zhangpu County, Fujian Province, around 0030 hours on Thursday (14 August) with peak winds of Force 11 (30 m/s) and a minimum central pressure of 990 hPa.
• At 0500 hours on Thursday (14 August), its center was located in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, with peak winds of Force 9 (23 m/s) and a minimum central pressure of 995 hPa.
• Typhoon Yangliu is expected to move northwestward at 30-35 km/h while gradually weakening.
• From 0800 hours on Thursday (14 August) to 0800 hours on Friday (15 August), strong winds of level 05-07 are forecast in the southern East China Sea, northeastern South China Sea, Bashi Channel, central and southern Fujian and its coasts, eastern Guangdong and its coasts, and southern Jiangxi, with winds on the southern coast of Fujian, eastern coast of Guangdong reaching level 08 and gusts of 09-10.
• Additionally, between Thursday-Friday (14-15 August), heavy to torrential rainfall is forecast in most of Guangdong, most of Guangxi, southeastern Fujian, southern Jiangxi, central and southern Hunan, northwestern Hunan, and eastern Guizhou, with some areas receiving 250-280 mm of rain, particularly in northern Guangdong, northeastern Guangxi, southern Hunan, and southwestern Jiangxi. Some areas will see hourly rainfall of 20-50 mm, exceeding 70 mm locally, along with thunderstorms and strong winds.
• Furthermore, the CMO lifted the blue warning for severe convective weather at 0600 hours on Thursday (14 August) due to reduced scope and weakened intensity.
• However, from 0800 hours on Thursday (14 August) to 0800 hours on Friday (15 August), thunderstorms, strong winds, or hail are still expected in parts of central and western Inner Mongolia, northern Shanxi, northern Hebei, northern and southern Hunan, northwestern and southern coastal Guangdong, and northern Guangxi.
• Parts of South China, western Jiangnan, eastern and southern Southwest China, western Jianghan, western and northern Huanghuai, and northern North China will also see short-term heavy rainfall of 20-50 mm per hour, locally exceeding 60 mm.
