CMO issues blue warning for heavy rainfall in parts of China; Level-IV emergency response issued in Guangdong as of Thursday (07 August) - datasurfr

As of 0600 hours on Thursday (07 August), the China Meteorological Observatory (CMO) has issued a blue warning for heavy rainfall in eastern Northwest China, North China, the Huanghuai region, the Jianghan region, the Jianghuai region, the Sichuan Basin, and Inner Mongolia. Severe convective weather, such as short-term heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, or hail, is expected in localized areas.

The details are as follows:

• From 0800 hours on Thursday (07 August) to 0800 hours on Friday (08 August), heavy to torrential rain (100-150 mm) is expected in parts of eastern Henan, northern Anhui, northern Jiangsu, southeastern Sichuan Basin, southwestern Yunnan, and northern and eastern Guangxi.
• Hourly rainfall intensity is forecast to reach 20-50 mm, with localized areas potentially exceeding 80 mm.
• From Friday to Saturday (08-09 August), moderate to heavy rain is expected in central and eastern Inner Mongolia, western Heilongjiang, southeastern Northwest China, North China, Huanghuai, and southwestern Yunnan.
• From Saturday to Sunday (09-10 August), parts of Shandong Peninsula, southern Henan, central and northern Anhui, central and northern Jiangsu, northern Hubei, and the western Sichuan Basin will experience heavy to torrential rain (100-180 mm).
• Winds of force 4-5 are also forecast in parts of central Inner Mongolia, northeastern Heilongjiang, Liaodong Peninsula, and the Hexi Corridor in Gansu.
• Moreover, the CMO issued a meteorological risk warning for floods in small and medium-sized rivers until 2000 hours on Thursday (07 August), forecasting high (yellow alert) to very high (orange alert) risk of localized flooding in northern and northwestern Guangdong and northeastern and southeastern Guangxi on Thursday (07 August).
• As of Wednesday (06 August), China’s national commission for disaster prevention, reduction and relief initiated a Level-IV emergency response in Guangdong Province due to ongoing heavy rainfall and severe flooding, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management.
• Emergency teams were deployed to flood-affected areas, including Zhaoqing and Qingyuan cities, to assist with relief efforts and ensure continuity of essential services. The provincial meteorological observatory issued warnings for geological disasters, urban waterlogging, and mountain torrents as rainfall persisted across southern Guangdong.
