CMA issues typhoon warnings on Monday (22 September)

The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has issued typhoon warnings for Typhoon “Haikui” (Ragasa), on Monday (22 September).

The center of Typhoon Haikui (presently super typhoon level) was located at in the northwest Pacific Ocean about 590 kilometers Northeast of Manila, Philippines at 0500 hours (local time) of Monday (22 September). The maximum wind speed near the center was above level 17 (220 kilometres per hour). It is expected that will move Westward at a speed of about 20 kilometers per hour while maintaining intensity. After crossing the Bashi Channel on Monday (22 September), it will enter the northeastern waters of the South China Sea in the early morning of Tuesday (23 September), and then move Northwestward gradually towards Guangdong. The intensity will weaken slightly as it approaches the coast of China.

• From 0800 hours on Monday (22 September) to 0800 hours on Tuesday (23 September), there will be strong winds of levels 07-09, with gusts of levels 10-11 levels in the Bashi Channel, the Northeastern waters of the South China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, the sea East of Taiwan, the Southwestern waters of the East China Sea, the Dongsha Islands, and the coast of Fujian. Among them, the wind force in the Bashi Channel and parts of the Northeastern South China Sea will be 10-13 levels, with gusts of 14-15 levels. The wind force in the nearby sea areas or regions where the Typhoon center passes may reach 14-17 levels, with gusts of more than 17 levels.
• From 0800 hours on Monday (22 September) to 0800 hours on Tuesday (23 September), there will be heavy rainfall in some parts of Northeastern Fujian and Southeastern Zhejiang.
