As per reports, multiple brush fires erupted along Interstate 90 (I-90) between Easton and Ellensburg on Monday (18 August) afternoon, beginning around 1450 hours (local time). The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) confirmed the full closure of I-90 due to the fires.
• Eastbound lanes are shut down at milepost 70 near Easton, and westbound lanes are closed at milepost 106 near Ellensburg.
• WSDOT initially reported delays around 1525 hours (local time) on Monday (18 August) between Easton (MP 75) and Cle Elum (MP 85). By 1612 hours (local time) on Monday (18 August), the department confirmed full closures in both directions due to worsening fire conditions and heavy smoke.
• All area fire departments, along with dozer and air support, are assisting in firefighting efforts. Kittitas County Fire District 7 reported that the fire has been contained between milepost 74 and 78, near the freeway and railroad tracks. The cause of the fires remains unknown.
• As of now, no evacuation orders have been issued, though heavy smoke continues to impact visibility in the area. Travellers are being advised to avoid the region, plan alternate routes, and exercise extreme caution.
