As per reports, Rizal, Cagayan Mayor Joel Ruma was shot dead during a campaign sortie in Barangay Illuru Sur on Wednesday (23 April) at 2130 hours. Two more victims were injured in the shooting incident, with no further casualties being reported.

Patrol units were launched by the provincial command of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for pursuit operations, while additional checkpoint posts were established in the area.
