Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues advisory for citizens amid ongoing wildfire in western Nevada on Wednesday (26 August)

As per reports, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (26 August) has issued a warning to Bulgarian citizens located in the Reno and Washoe County areas of Nevada following the large-scale Hawk Fire, which has prompted emergency declarations, extensive evacuation measures, and significant disruption to local infrastructure.

• According to the authorities as of Wednesday (26 August), local authorities have declared a state of emergency in Washoe County. An immediate evacuation order, designated ‘GO NOW,’ has reportedly been issued for approximately 42,000 residents, with the affected evacuation area extending towards the University of Nevada. A further approximately 45,000 people are located in an adjacent area subject to an evacuation warning.
• Reports indicate that the fire has also resulted in significant power outages, which may further affect residential areas, businesses, communications and essential services. Authorities have warned that additional travel restrictions may be implemented and that designated evacuation zones may change as the situation develops.
• Additionally, the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised citizens requiring assistance to contact the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Los Angeles.
