Bridge collapse reported in San Luis de Pambil on Thursday (29 October)

Risk level: Low Country: Ecuador

As per reports, flooding of the Suquibi River following heavy rainfall has caused severe structural damage and partial collapse of a bridge connecting San Luis de Pambil parish to the road leading to Las Naves in Ecuador, disrupting local traffic on Thursday (29 October).

• Reports indicate that increased river flow undermined the bridge foundations and caused bank erosion, resulting in the collapse of one access ramp and compromising the structure’s stability.
• The site has been cordoned off to prevent pedestrian and vehicular access due to the risk of further collapse.
• Reportedly, the damaged crossing is an important route for residents travelling to healthcare facilities, schools and markets, including for the transportation of agricultural products.
