As per reports, bomb threats have been reported at the municipal corporation offices in Jamnagar, Surat, and Vadodara, Gujarat, on Wednesday (17 June) after authorities received anonymous emails threatening to blow up the facilities.
The details are as follows:
• Threatening emails were sent by unidentified individuals to the main offices of the three municipal corporations. Following receipt of the emails, police and security agencies initiated precautionary security measures and launched search operations at the affected locations.
• At the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation office, authorities ordered the immediate evacuation of the premises after the threat was received. More than 1,000 employees and visitors were reportedly evacuated from the building and surrounding premises as a precautionary measure. Search operations have been conducted across office departments, rooms, lobbies, parking areas, and other sections of the complex.
• At the Surat Municipal Corporation office, police, bomb disposal teams, and dog squads were deployed following the threat. Security personnel carried out extensive inspections of the municipal premises and surrounding areas. Initial searches have not resulted in the discovery of any suspicious objects or explosive materials.
• A similar threat was also reported at the Vadodara Municipal Corporation office. Police, bomb disposal units, and dog squads have been deployed to the site, and security personnel have conducted searches throughout the premises. No suspicious items have been reported during the preliminary inspections.
• A cybercrime investigation has also been initiated to determine the origin of the threatening emails, identify those responsible, and establish the motive behind the threats. Police have reportedly registered a case and further investigations remain ongoing.
