Bomb blasts at petrol stations reported in South Thailand on Sunday (11 January)

As per reports, attacks on 11 petrol stations occurred in Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces of South Thailand around 0100 hours (local time) on Sunday (11 January). This has supposedly resulted in four injuries.

The following are the details:

• Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has stated that the coordinated bombings and arson attacks that took place on 11 petrol stations across southern border provinces of the country were intended to disrupt the local elections and should not be considered as an “act of terrorism”.
• Security officials have assessed the attacks as a “signal” intended to cause disruption and timed to coincide with the Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO) Election.
• Defence Minister Nattaphon Narkphanit stated that all the bombing scenes were quickly secured and an investigation is underway.
• Guards were now on duty at all petrol stations and strategic energy locations to ensure the safety of employees and customers.
• Additionally, the Department of Energy Business will maintain petrol stocks and secure supply routes for the far South.
