The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported that a magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred at about 1745 hours (local time) on Saturday (24 January).

The earthquake was located approximately 154 kilometres northeast of Tahuna, Sangihe Islands, North Sulawesi. The earthquake depth has been reported at approximately 177 kilometres.
