BMKG issues high wave warning in Indonesia between Sunday-Wednesday (03-06 August)

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region III Denpasar has issued a warning for high sea waves expected to affect several coastal and maritime zones in Indonesia, including Bali, between Sunday-Wednesday (03-06 August).

The details are as follows:

• The wave heights may reach high waves reaching up to six meters in several Indonesian waters, especially around Bali, Sumatra, and Nusa Tenggara, including the southern Bali Strait, Badung Strait, southern Lombok Strait, and the waters south of Bali.
• In the northern Lombok Strait, wave heights may reach four meters; in the waters north of Bali, up to 2.5 meters.
• The wind speeds in affected areas are forecast to reach up to 20 knots (approximately 37 km/h), increasing wave activity.
• The most affected areas include southern Bali waters, southern Sunda Strait, southern Java to East Nusa Tenggara, northern and western Sumatra (especially North Sumatra and Aceh), and the Indian Ocean south of Bali and NTB.
• The key impacted transport and tourism crossings include Bali-Java via the Bali Strait, Bali-Lombok via the Lombok Strait, and Denpasar-Nusa Penida via the Badung Strait.
• The fishing boats are advised to avoid sailing in winds above 15 knots and waves over 1.25 meters.
• Alongside, the barges and ferries are advised to exercise caution if winds exceed 16-21 knots and wave heights rise to 1.5-2.5 meters. BBMKG has coordinated with port authorities and advised heightened vigilance among sea transport operators and tourists.
