The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early weather warning for the Papua Region on Friday (22 August) at 0513 hours (local time):

• The forecast indicates potential for moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds beginning at 0525 hours (local time).
• Initial impact is expected across Yapen Islands Regency (South Yapen, East Yapen, Angkaisera, Kosiwo, Ampimoi Bay, Ambai Islands, Anotaurei, Yawakukat), Biak Numfor Regency (Biak City, North Biak, East Biak, Padaido, Samofa, Yawosi, Aimando Padaido, Oridek), and Sarmi Regency (Bonggo).
• Adverse weather is expected to spread further into Yapen Islands Regency (West Yapen, North Yapen, Raimbawi, Windesi) and Biak Numfor Regency (West Biak, Warsa, Yendidori, Andey, Swandiwe).
• This condition is projected to persist until 0710 hours (local time).
