The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) issued a blue alert for heavy rainfall on Thursday (20 August).

• Heavy to torrential rain is expected in parts of Hainan Island, southeastern Guangxi, southwestern Guangdong, eastern Fujian, Taiwan Island, southeastern Zhejiang, northeastern Inner Mongolia, northwestern Heilongjiang, eastern Henan, northeastern and southern Shandong, central and northern Chongqing, western Hubei, northeastern Hunan, southeastern Tibet, northern and southwestern Yunnan, and southern Guizhou.
• Locally, torrential rain of 100-230 mm is expected in western Hainan Island and southwestern and northeastern Taiwan Island. These areas are also expected to experience short-duration heavy rainfall, with maximum hourly rainfall of 20-50 mm and locally more than 70 mm. Some areas are also expected to experience thunderstorms and strong convective weather.
