According to reports, West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Sukanta Mazumdar on Monday (19 February) stated that the party would hold a 72-hour long protest in the coming days demanding the arrest of Sheikh Shahjahan over the Sandeshkhali violence.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, it was stated that the probable day of commencement of protests is Thursday (22 February).
