As per reports, a 72-hour strike has been announced by the socialist railway union called General Union of Public Services (CGSP Cheminots/ACOD), starting at 2200 hours local time on Monday (29 January) until 2200 hours local time on Thursday (01 February).

It has been reported that the participation of the members from Confederation of Christian Trade Unions and SLFP Cheminots (Syndicate of Public Service Personnel) remains unconfirmed.
