The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised the alert level to three for Mayon Volcano in Albay on Monday (23 February), advising the public against entering the six-kilometre Permanent Danger Zone and warning aircraft to avoid flying over the volcano due to heightened volcanic activity.
Authorities have announced that potential hazards include rock erosion, the ejection of lava fragments or rocks, advancing lava flows, the emission of volcanic ash (uson), moderate explosive bursts, and the possibility of lahar flows, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
