As per reports, significant traffic congestion is expected across Germany on Thursday (30 April), particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia, as travelers prepare for the long weekend around May Day on Friday (01 May).

• The warning has been issued by the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club, which anticipates one of the busiest travel periods of the year due to a combination of commuter traffic and holiday travel.
• Traffic volumes are expected to increase from midday onwards as individuals begin leisure trips to coastal regions such as the North Sea or travel to visit relatives. Historically, the start of the May Day weekend has resulted in some of the longest traffic jams annually, with similar patterns expected this year despite external influencing factors.
• However, elevated fuel prices are expected to influence travel behavior. Authorities indicate that some motorists may delay or cancel trips, potentially shifting peak congestion to Friday (01 May), when a fuel tax adjustment is scheduled to take effect. While a gradual decrease in fuel prices is expected following the policy change, immediate reductions are not anticipated.
