The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported that a magnitude 3.6 earthquake occurred at about 2356 hours (local time) on Sunday (18 January). The earthquake was located approximately 78 kilometres southeast of Pacitan, East Java.

The earthquake has been reported at a depth of approximately 10 kilometres, indicating a shallow seismic event.
