As per reports, following are the latest updates on tropical storm Maymay in the Philippines on Wednesday (05 August):
• Tropical storm Maymay was located 185 kilometres west northwest of Bacnotan, La Union, moving northward at 10 kilometres per hour on Wednesday (05 August) as of 1100 hours (local time).
• The storm has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometres per hour near the centre and gustiness of up to 80 kilometres per hour.
• Tropical storm Maymay is forecast to move eastward and may make landfall over Ilocos Sur or La Union on Wednesday (05 August) afternoon or evening before traversing Northern and Central Luzon.
• Strong to gale-force gusts driven by the Southwest Monsoon and tropical storm Maymay are impacting most of Luzon, Visayas, and parts of Mindanao on Wednesday (05 August), with widespread impacts forecast across most of the country on Thursday (06 August) and Friday (07 August). Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal no. 2 has been issued for parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
• A gale warning is active over the western seaboard of Northern Luzon, with very rough seas up to five meters reported along the seaboards of Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.
• Tropical storm Maymay is expected to weaken into a tropical depression by Thursday (06 August) after making landfall and may further downgrade into a low pressure area on Thursday (06 August).
