Impact Level: Notification
Locations Affected: Cyprus
Tracking Id: RINTP3876324774
Description:
As per reports, the Cyprus Forestry Department renewed calls for extreme caution due to a high risk of wildfires on Saturday (15 August) and Sunday (16 August), ahead of the mid-August holiday period.
The report suggests the department is on high alert for fires caused by human activity, particularly from barbecues and garden-clearing work.
Impact:
• Increased outdoor and holiday activity in forested and mountain areas may lead to a higher risk of fires starting and spreading rapidly, which may threaten nearby communities and infrastructure.
• Wildfire outbreaks may affect transport routes near forested regions, which might lead to road closures and delays.
• Business operations and tourism activity in affected mountain and rural areas may be temporarily disrupted in the event of a fire outbreak.
Recommendations:
• It is advisable to avoid using tools, machinery, or open flames that generate heat or sparks within forest areas or within a 2 kilometre zone around them.
• It is advised to report any suspicious activity, smoke, or fire immediately by contacting the Forestry Department on 1407 or the Fire Service on 112.
• It is advised to monitor current updates via the Cyprus Forestry Department (https://www.moa.gov.cy/moa/fd/fd.nsf/index_en/index_en?OpenDocument).
