As per reports, the Grand River Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch covering the entire Grand River watershed due to an increased risk of flooding associated with rising temperatures, rainfall, and snowmelt as of Thursday (05 March).
• According to the advisory, temperatures across the watershed are expected to remain above freezing through Friday (06 March) and may reach double-digit values over the weekend. A similar warming trend is forecast to continue into the following week.
• Weather forecasts indicate that light rainfall is expected to continue through Friday (06 March) and into the weekend, with total rainfall estimates ranging between 20 and 30 millimetres over the coming days.
• Municipal flood coordinators in several communities along the watershed, including Brantford and Six Nations of the Grand River, as well as Grand Valley, Waldemar, Drayton, West Montrose, Conestogo, New Hamburg, Ayr, Caledonia, Cayuga, and Dunnville, have been advised to remain alert to evolving conditions and implement precautionary measures if necessary.
• Additionally, the national weather authority, Environment and Climate Change Canada, has issued a weather advisory indicating the possibility of freezing rainfall or freezing drizzle in parts of the region, particularly affecting areas such as Waterloo Region and Guelph.
